Don't Snooze on your chance for Dozer
Age: 3 years
Sex: Male
Dogs: obr> Cats: No
Children: No
Location: London, ON
Any Special Needs: no
Adoption Fee: $400.00

Dozer is a special guy looking for a special home. He is a 3 year old male who, truthfully, does not care for other animals even though he lives with another dog at present. He would really like to find a home where he can be the only pet. Since he was a pup Dozer has always been a vocal player which can put some people off. He is excited to see other animals when out for a walk so a confident owner would be needed to curb his uh "enthusiasm". He has good obedience skills and he knows all his basic commands. He is well behaved in the home and on walks until he sees another animal. He is friendly and affectionate with people and has had some exposure to a young child in his present home, however, we feel older respectful children would be best. An adult-only home would also be ideal. Dozer has been assessed by one of our most experienced and dog savvy volunteers and she had this to say:

"Dozer is really very reactive and he fixates. He is over excited and stressed when he encounters other animals. He may benefit from some additional exercise; at present he is a very anxious, go after anything that moves boy. And he's a big boy too. On a positive note, after practicing some blocking techniques with corrections and working on calming his handler Dozer was starting to calm down and learn. As well, I was able to get both of my dogs physically closer to Dozer without him freaking out, for a time anyway. He definitely has potential with a confident handler. He will try to throw quite a vocal tantrum if he can't get his own way but he is responsive to the right cues so he can certainly learn.

"Dozer would need to find a person or family with some dog savvy skills. Too much pampering won't be a good option for this boy; routine and regular, confident handling will be the ticket to success with Dozer. Dozer would do very well in an active home where he can burn off some of his energy on a regular basis, supervised of course."

Dozer may be a bit of a challenge but we believe he will repay his family many times over if they are willing to put the effort in. If you are looking for a boy with a little bit of chutzpah, Dozer may be the guy for you!
