Kayla
1996 – 2008
(September 30, 2008)

To our dearest Kayla:

When our family first met you, we didn’t realize how much we would come to love and cherish our friendship with you. You filled our lives with fun, your boxer antics, smiles and love. We were so happy to give you your forever home and you were such a terrific girl!

We didn’t realize just how much you filled our home until you were gone. All five of us miss you in our own way. I miss our time together every morning when we used to go for a walk; Sean misses the great feeling he got when he came home to your stubby little tail wiggling away to greet him at the door making any bad day totally disappear; Sarah misses coming home and having you shove your butt at her to scratch; Brandon misses your presence every day after school, sitting in “your chair” in the living room, waiting for the boys to come home; and Dylan misses spending time with you every morning before going to school.

We all miss that face of yours peering out the dining room window watching for us to come home and those times when you were so intent on watching the children going back and forth to school out the living room window that you didn’t hear us from your perch across the back of the couch! We miss the way you used to walk from room to room at the end of the day, checking to make sure everyone was home and secure in bed.

Two years ago when I found out you had cancer, I promised you I would be there with you until the end, that you would not be alone. I kept my promise and was with you, holding your head and stroking you as you left us to go to the other side.

The day before we took you to the vet, I sat with you and you put your paw on my arm and tucked your head under my chin as if to tell me it was okay – I made the right decision for you.

We miss you! Until we meet again, Kayla – with all our love,
Your forever family: Lesa (mommy), Sean (dad), Sarah, Brandon and Dylan (your human sister and brothers)

Always in our memories and forever in our hearts

Sweet Rest and Godspeed Kayla
