click for enlarged imageI woke up in the middle of the night a couple of weeks ago, and my thoughts led me to thinking about our Thunder. That led to thoughts of Buddy and Duke. In many ways they did more us than we ever did for them.

Duke was truly a gentle sole and taught us how to treat each other with patience and kindness. Buddy was a loyal friend. We had a couch under the window that faced the drive and he would always be watching me as I left. (I kind of miss that). Thunder, he just never ceaced to amaze us. He was a true lesson in courage, and how to dig down deep inside to rise above any obstacle in his way. We would find him pushing himself up the stairs backwards when his one back leg was just too tired. When we moved, the new angle of the stairs threw him off stride, which had us worried, but after a week or so he had them mastered. His playful, positive, grateful attitude was centaurs indeed. And to think, they had been discarded by someone.

Anyone who has doubts about these older ones , please be assured its worth it. You may have a little less time with them but they have enough to give to make up for it. As I was laying there that night thinking about all this, these words of gratitude began to come into my mind. Gratitude also for all of you other volunteers that work tirelessly to find these dogs, check out perspective new homes, transport them, board them, and of coarse to those who open their homes to these rescued ones and accomplish the goal. I would like to dedicate these next words to the memory of our three boys and to you fine people who helped bring them to us and others like them to many grateful homes like ours.

Our Friends In Need click for enlarged image

When I look into those pleading eyes
I feel your saddened painful sighs
Who knows what you've been through my friend
But now those former things will end.
I'll never understand that there are cold and callous Hearst so hard
That can inflict a kind of pan
That leaves you broken, hurt and scared.
But we are here to rescue you,
To show you there is life anew.
We'll willingly donate time and cars
To bring you to new homes afar,
Because we know that you are treasures
Meant to bring us joy unmeasured.
We do it not for thanks or gain,
But because we know that there arecliok for enlarged image
Folks like us with homes out there,
That love and laugh with lives to share
With ones like you that can provide.
A friend that's true
