Blossom was
born in less than perfect conditions (to put it mildly) at a run of the mill
"Backyard Breeding" facility. Because the "breeder" didn’t take care to ensure
that her mother and father were healthy enough to breed, Blossom along with her
brothers and sisters were at great risk of being born with health issues. The
fear of medical difficulties rang true when half of Blossoms littermates died.
Blossom was the lucky little girl of her pack and a real fighter, she pulled
through the first stage of life and with the help of some |
| very caring friends,
made her way to Boxer Rescue Ontario. Blossom underwent testing to determine the
degree of her condition – the diagnosis was not as we had hoped. She had a very
bad heart and surgery to correct her faulty heart valves was not an
option…..Blossom would most likely not live to see her first birthday.
But what do
you do with a happy go lucky bundle of boxer energy who has no idea anything is
wrong with her….you find her an Angel and that's just what we did. We had an
applicant (whose name just happened to be Angel) apply to us for a new family
member. This particular applicant specifically said she would like to help out a
dog with special needs – Blossom certainly fit the bill. Through some
coordinating with more boxer friends we were able to transport Blossom to her
new home in Ottawa where she would meet her forever mommy and new canine
sister. Of course it was love at first site and as the days passed Blossom, now
Susie Q, truly began to "Blossom". She marveled in the excitement of play with
her new sister and fell madly in love with her "Angel". Susie Q got to play and
swim and hike and play some more. She loved meal times and cuddle times and
visiting with new friends – life was grand.
Late in the
summer after a boxer burn around the yard, death came swift to our sweet Suzie
Q. Angel scooped her up in her arms and as Susie soaked up her love she left her
life here on earth and crossed the bridge to join those who have gone before
her. There is no question that Susie Q led a full life – as short as it was, it
couldn't have been any more joyful for her. Her keeper, Angel, was truly a
Guardian Angel and awesome boxer mom. Thank you to everyone, especially Angel,
who cared for and sent good thoughts to Susie Q – she was a very special girl,
one of a kind kindred spirit.
