Bentley (aka Rocky)

BRO,

Back on the first of April we were very fortunate to adopt Bentley (aka Rocky). Having lost our third boxer a few months earlier we eventually found there was room in our broken hearts for another. Not having adopted before, we really weren’t sure what to expect, but Bentley has been an absolute joy. He has given us unconditional love and we have managed to completely spoil him in return. We’d like to thank all the staff at BRO for their dedication and support and a special thanks to Linda who has helped us through the transition. Bentley especially loves to go to the cottage where he can run on the beach. I have attached a couple of before and after pictures of his favourite places. Once again, thanks for all your help!

Jake

It seems I've had boxers in my life since...well since before I could walk. The hardest thing about having a boxer, is losing that boxer to old age or a health issue. I was determined that after losing my boy Hercules, I'd never have another dog in my life.

...riiight

In January 2006, a spunky puppy named Jake needed to find a new home. I was sure I wasn't ready to bring another live warm, fuzzy, smushy faced, loveable boxer into my life on a full time, or even part time basis. Ok well..that's what I thought anyway. Then there was Jake ... (could make a song out of that sentence).

To say Jake was spunky, is probably a huge understatement. (Think Kangaroo on a leash here). He had been moved about a bit in order to find him a forever home. Some times, you need to make a few changes before things turn out just right for everyone. Those changes can be unsettling if you're not sure where the road ends. That's how I thought of Jake's situation. He needs to find the end of the road and stay put to enjoy the view!

I spoke to Linda from Boxer Rescue, and we discussed the kind of home... and human, Jake probably needed to be around. Cuz it's all about who puts the food in the dish at the end of the day, that counts. After what seemed like a few weeks....which was actually a few months, of having Jake in my care, I made a very difficult decision to adopt Jake. Difficult, because I wanted very much to make sure I could give Jake the love and attention ... LOTS and LOTS of attention, he needed, to be the best furry buddy a boxer could be. Anything less than 110% of my commitment on a full time basis, would only do Jake harm. I was also sceptical that I'd not be able to love Jake as much as I loved and cared for ole Hercules. Train and help along the road to a new family...yes. But adopt him myself, well that was a tough decision.

Can you see this coming?

....... Well all the walls fell down and Jake jumped the broken remains, to land firmly on my heart for ever and ever ... THE END.

Ok well not the end really.

My relationship with Jake is an ongoing work in progress as is any relationship regardless of who...or in this case what species, it's with. We went from "who the heck are you" when I picked him up, to "oh no not you again!" When I give him a command.

Having another boxer in my life, and yes specifically Jake, has made a huge amount of difference in my life again. I won't go in

to all the ways he has enriched my life.....foster or adopt a boxer yourself and find out why every human on the end of a leash connected to a boxer, is always, ALWAYS smiling!!

Extra special thanks to all the supportive and encouraging folks from Boxer Rescue Ontario!

Dakota

I adopted Dakota last year from a very loving family who unfortunately had to give her up for medical reasons.

Dakota is now 9 years old and doing extremely well. She is in fantastic shape for a 9 year old Boxer and I credit this to the loving care and attention she recieved from her original family. Vets, friends and nieghbours always comment on her great shape and energy. He has fit into my home wonderfully.

I have a 13 year old Lab Sheppard mix named Lucky who has shared my home with three Boxers including Dakota. The bond that has developed between Lucky and Dakota over the last year has been amazing. Much stronger than any other Boxer I have had. They are truly great buddies and quite inseparateable.

Lucky often forgoes his comfortable bed at night to sleep on the hardwood floor beside Dakota`s as if he is protecting her or just wants to be close.

Dakota on the other hand encourages Lucky to run and play in the back yard like the two of them were puppies again. It is so nice to see two oldr dogs playing like that and I am sure Dakota will add at least a couple of extra years to Luckys life.

Dakota is smart, bright, energetic, loving and affectionate. I`m so happy that her original mom and dad allowed me to take her into my home and I wish to assure them that she is being treated as a princess!

Thank you Boxer Rescue for bringing Dakota into mine and Lucky`s life!
