 Tyson
Well I never
knew how much November 10th, 2008 would change our lives forever. That
is the day we took Maggie (our 3 year old boxer) to meet her potential
new brother. As soon as we met him it was instant love, Maggie included.
Now the whole adoption process and the ride home, the first week all went
great.
After the first week, we thought we should take Tyson to our local vet's
to have some stitches checked out on his head that were not healing. Of
course he was an instant hit there also and was very comfortable around
Dr. Brent Steele. Little did we know that would be the first of many trips
to the vet. After 2 weeks, Tyson developed a cyst on his neck. After a
couple of days it was rather large and we took him in to be checked. To
make a long story short, and many tests, x-rays, and all that, he was
taken to Toronto hospital where they admitted him right away. They too
fell in love with him. He was a star patient, we were nervous parents
leaving our child behind. He had excellent care, and they told us it was
not cancer, and started treatment, drain tubes, medication, surgery, but
that he was going to be ok. Needless to say, many more trips to the vets,
bandages, healing of a huge scar all down his throat was a long 8-10 weeks.
But what a boxer we have!
Tyson and Maggie are the best of friends, I can't remember life without
him. He is very loveable (as both vets office fell in love with him).
He is typical boxer, couch potato, playful, and so very affection, and
eyes that melt your heart when you look at him. He and Maggie both sleep
with us, so much for the king size bed, it's pretty full. He was a little
under weight when we got him, but he is around 75lbs now and very healthy.
Even the cat
Xena, who has lived in the basement since he came here has now accepted
him and thinks he's ok.
Life without Tyson?...could never imagine it. He is a great companion
for Maggie, and a joy to us. He now has the people at doggie daycare (they
visit a couple times a month) for play days, addicted to his infectious
personality.
He has touched so many lives already in this small town, and everyone
loves him. When he was still recovering, we had planned a trip to Mexico
in January. Well Maggie was going to the doggie daycare for the week,
we were so afraid to take Tyson in his condition. This is where you know
you have a good vet. Dr. Steele decided to keep him at the vet's office
during the day and he would be crated there at night and made sure he
was looked after in case anything happened. Well he was there all during
the day, but Jill Edwards (from boxer rescue) took Tyson home with her
every night so he was never alone. What a great bunch. The problem was
when we came home and went to pick him up, the girls at the vet's office
didn't want him to leave. He got spoiled and had become their mascot.
So, to say he had a rough start with us....well yes that is true.....but
he had so many people looking out for him, and so many people that had
fell in love with him that it was all worth it.
If we had a big enough place, we would be looking for a couple more boxers,
but for now, Maggie and Tyson spread enough love, little do they know,
our love for them can't even be put into words.
